Lady Dragon-Killer

Description

Aerin-sol, Lady Dragon-Killer, the main character of The Hero and the Crown, one of my favorite novels; Aerin herself is one of my favorite characters from fiction. I was reading the book again (for about the hundredth time) the other day and felt the need to draw her. It shows the two sides of her; before fighting Maur, the Black Dragon, and after, when she had recovered and learned to use her kelar.

Yes, I know, Aerin herself never wore the Hero's Crown (though I think she should have - she was the one who won it and brought it back to Damar, after all!), and she decided to leave Maur's dragonstone with Luthe instead of binding it to the Crown...but I thought it looked cooler this way ;)

Hi, I'd like to start by saying this is quite a nice painting. You are accurate to the stock reference, with a few minor exceptions, those mostly being in the shading of the piece. The major thing that I see is that in most of the painting, the shading is not varied or dark enough - don't be afraid to go deeper with your color! It gives a picture depth and life. The other thing that I see is that the skin seems to be shaded with variations of one tone. Skin has many different colors in it. If you look back at the stock, you can see that while the dark parts of the skin you've got right, there are some reds and reddish browns in there too. It is imperative to include those because they are what help skin to look natural, and this being a natural looking painting, you would want that to be included.

Good work overall, though! I'm off to see the rest of your gallery!
